DeTomaso took a modified version of the P70 spine chassis and dropped in a Ford 302 CI engine with a ZF 5-speed transaxle. For the body, luck ran DeTomaso’s way—Carrozzeria Ghia’s Giorgetto Giugiaro had penned a dramatic midengined design for Iso’s Renzo Rivolta, with Iso rejecting it for his next car. De Tomaso swept in for the spoils and named it the Mangusta, the predator to the Cobra. After debuting at the Turin Motor Show in November 1966, DeTomaso sent a Mangusta to Dearborn for Ford to assess as an addition to the Ford product line. With Shelby playing the part of the potential distributor, the car was badged as the Shelby MkV, the successor to the GT40 MkIV. Ford decided not to import the car, which was ultimately done by Kjell Qvale of British Motor Car Distributors in San Francisco. This 1969 DeTomaso Mangusta is finished in bright red with white racing stripes, a rear spoiler, side scoops and “Shelby MK V” badging. Beneath the rear gullwing hatches resides a Boss 302 Ford engine, professed to be built by Shelby American, and is fitted with finned “DeTomaso” valve covers and a current jackshaft to operate the alternator and standard air conditioning compressor. Mated to a ZF 5DS 25/1 5-speed manual transaxle, power meets the ground via Campagnolo 7x15 front and 8x15 rear magnesium wheels shod in Dunlop G/T Qualifier rubber. | For sale 9/27/22 for $369,900. The incredible DeTomaso Mangusta featured here is finished in stunning dark red over a gorgeous black leather interior. Originally delivered new in Europe to its first owner and then brought to the United States where, reportedly, Carroll Shelby was commissioned to rebuild and blueprint the engine to his specifications; eventually ending up in a prominent collection for many years. This exquisite example has been meticulously maintained and recently serviced including new Michelin XWX tires and is now ready to be shown or driven. Accompanying this investment-grade DeTomaso Mangusta are its original owner's manual, sales brochure, toolkit and more. We are proud to bring to market what we believe to be one of the very best examples on the market today! Offered to the most sophisticated collector, investor or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the investment potential of this iconic model. | 20,393km | — | Marc Hefle, CA | — |

This is a Red/Black interior car, which has European instruments (kilometers, degrees C, etc.). and the original leather interior with two piece seats. The dash pad has been renewed in Black leather. I believe I am the third owner, having purchased the car in August 2001 from Bill Todd in N. Calif/Oregon. The first owner was an engineer for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company and the car lived for many years in Sunnyvale, CA. The body appears to be very original, except that it has BBS 3 piece wheels instead of the original DeTomaso wheels. The car has the following mods: Hall headers and big bore mufflers, centerforce clutch/pressure plate, large motor/transaxle skid plate, Hall shocks/springs. The car is in Carson City, Nevada. I think the original mileage is about 44,000 (65,000 kms on the odometer), but I will have to check this to be certain. |

The car offered here is one of the rare Mangustas in Italy, and it is being offered by a prominent De Tomaso enthusiast. It was first registered in Italy in 1968 and is believed to have been continuously owned in its home country since new. Amongst its former owners was Umberto Maggi, the long-time bassist of the Italian band Nomadi. | — | featured in an article in the April 2014 issue of Ruoteclassiche magazine | — | 8MA608 is a neat Yellow color with Black interior. The 302 is from Ford and was offered for sale in 2006 with about 60,000km on the clock. Note how clean the interior looks. April 2009 Update: This Mangusta is currently being restored and resides in Italy. |

Color: Orange. I am the third owner, having purchased it in 1977 from a collector who got rid of all of his non-Ferrari cars in order to raise capital to buy a Ferrari GTO. As I recall, he paid 70k for the car and I thought he was nuts. After purchasing the car in 1977, I performed the following modifications: Engine to Sports Car Graphic stage 3 specifications, minus the headers. Recent Jet Hot treatment to original headers. The valve covers are finned Cobra covers with the logo milled out and DeTomaso castings inserted. This was done when the Windsor heads were added. Cooling system upgrade with larger fan motors. Rewired for on, switch to off. Recently shown Watkins Glen. Jerry B. NY |

The car was purchased circa 2010 by a California owner who commissioned a refurbishment that included a repaint in silver and a re-trim of the interior in tan leather, after which the car received the People’s Choice Award at the 2012 La Jolla Concours d’Elegance. It was purchased in 2013 by its current owner, who has since displayed it twice at LeMay – America’s Car Museum as well as at the 2013 ArtCenter College of Design Car Classic, the 2014 Pacific Northwest Concours d’Elegance, where it won the Junior Judges Award, and the 2023 Avants Classics on the Green, for which it served as the poster car. Power is provided by a 302ci Ford V8 that breathes through a four-barrel carburetor and is mated to a ZF five-speed manual transaxle. Additional features include power-assisted disc brakes, coilover independent suspension, 15” Campagnolo alloy wheels, fixed quad headlights, air conditioning, power windows, and four-point harnesses. This Mangusta was featured on BaT in February 2008 and in August 2012 and is now offered on dealer consignment in California with a Washington title. This example received a color change from red to its current shade of silver during the refurbishment that was completed in 2012, while the exterior mirrors and right quarter panel were repainted between 2022 and 2023. Various wear is noted in the finish including chips and stress cracks adjacent to the corners of the windshield. Exterior features include fixed quad headlights, body-color side mirrors, round side markers, a mesh rear grille, and gullwing-style engine compartment doors, the latter of which incorporate rectangular glass panels, rear vents, quarter windows, and side louvers. Campagnolo wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 205/60R15 up front and 275/60R15 at the rear. The finish of the right rear wheel is noted to exhibit yellowing. Stopping is handled by power-assisted disc brakes with front cooling ducts, and the calipers are said to have been rebuilt and refinished during a freshening between October 2022 and July 2023. The cabin was re-trimmed during the refurbishment approximately 12 years ago and features tan leather over bucket seats along with matching upholstery covering the door panels, center tunnel, dash, and rear bulkhead. Additional features include gray carpeting, four-point latch-and-link harnesses, a gated shifter, drilled pedals, air conditioning, power windows, and a fire extinguisher. Creasing is noted on areas of the seat upholstery. The Ferrero three-spoke steering wheel features a wood- and leather-trimmed rim and frames Veglia Borletti instrumentation including a 200-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,900-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows 24k miles, approximately 4k of which have been added under current ownership. Auxiliary instruments include a clock and gauges monitoring oil pressure, oil temperature, amperage, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The 302ci Ford V8 is topped by a four-barrel carburetor and an Offenhauser intake manifold. A refresh between 2022 and 2023 is said to have included fluid changes, a rebuild of the starter, and replacement of the alternator, spark plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor, and oil-pressure sender. Electrical repairs at that time included replacement of and repairs to the wiring for the ignition coil, charging system, cooling fans, and starter as well as the replacement of various relays. | — | — | David James | — |

This exquisitely handsome De Tomaso was registered in the U.S. on 22nd May, 1969 and has been lovingly cared for to a very high standard. The red coachwork is in splendid order, as is the black leather interior. Inside the cockpit, there is a delightful period feel to the instrumentation layout and switches. Upon starting the 4949cc, V8 engine, it is obviously apparent this car is special. Not only does the engine sound superb, the performance on our 'all too gentle' test drive, was impressive. Mated to a five-speed ZF gearbox, this is a car with outstanding styling and one you will never get bored of driving. Believed to be a two owner vehicle in the U.S. and supplied with the necessary importation documents and registered on UK number plates, with a V5 document, together with a very comprehensive log of everything the original owner ever had done to the car. The unique styling of these supercars can only be admired, the gullwing engine covers a classic example of Italian design at its best. This De Tomaso Mangusta is in superb condition and represents an opportunity to own one of the finest examples available today. | 96000 | — | — | — |

He bought the car from Basil Shadlun also from New Jersey. Basil bought the car from a fellow whom we think was John Damaza in Conneticut. I did a ground up restoration. The ZF box was new as one of the owners before Basil, caught a raised manhole cover with the double eared bellhousing. Gary Hall of Hall Pantera polished the ZF and I replaced the two eared bellhousing with a single ear. This required a 157 tooth flywheel instead of a 164. At one time I ran Webers and later a single 600 CFM Holley...the best way to go. The car was originally silver with black interior. I changed the color to red and powder coated the suspension and chromed or polished the remainder. I installed 2 Maria fans for cooling. The engine was brought up to Cobra specs. internally with Windsor 4 brl. heads . The car was unfinished at the time John Matras ran a back page article on it in Autoweek. I sold the car to Barney Hallingsbee in Connecticut. |

He didn't fit in car and sold to Ruzzin in 1969. | A history of DeTomaso Mangusta MA-670 by Dick Ruzzin. The car was built at the factory in early winter of 1969 and delivered in May to the USA. Current Owner: Dick Ruzzin, Retired General Motors Design Staff. Years Purchased: September, 1969 from general Motors design Staff. Model Year: 1969 Mileage: 49,457 on 1-1-2006. Color: Original Orange with a Red interior. Now a Red exterior and Red interior, new paint in 2004, the interior was detailed. Location: Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230. Special Notes: The car was built for Bill Mitchell, VP of Design of GM. A Chevrolet 327 CI V8 was sent to DeTomaso from Chevrolet TYPEering and installed in the car at the factory. The car was sold to Dick Ruzzin with 1,241 miles on the odometer. The TYPE was redone in 2004. Compression was lowered to 11 to 1 and a 350 CI crank and special high torque cam were installed. The TYPE now produces 346 horsepower and 370 foot pounds of torque from 2100 to 4200 RPM on the dynamometer. A special set of large diameter headers were built that go up over the rear shock structure, behind the rear suspension and down to the mufflers. The mufflers are Pantera S type. The TYPE compartment is original, mostly Black with the original air cleaner in Silver with Silver metallic tubes going to the rear quarter air intake openings. An electronic ignition and high-torque starter were installed in 2005. The original Chevrolet rocker covers are chrome. The front has a 2.75 inch Black spoiler that enhances stability at higher speeds and helps cooling at low speeds. A new aluminum cross-flow radiator and a new more powerful set of fans were installed in 2005. A high performance Chevrolet water pump was installed when the TYPE was rebuilt. A coolant recovery system was added in 1970 and an 18 lb. pressure cap was installed with the new radiator. Fans are controlled by the original manual switch. The car has Koni coil-over shocks in the front and rear. The rear shocks are extended at the top by 1.5 inches. This allows the rear springs to be adjusted to the longest and softest position. Tires are Goodyear Eagle One NASCAR 235x60 tires in the front and 275x60 tires in the rear. Front tires are run at 32 pounds of air and the rears at 35 pounds. A radio aerial has been installed at the top of the windshield on the inside of the car. A signal enhancer has also been added to the radio along with an electronic noise reduction device. The front of the seats have been raised by 1.25 inches and competition harnesses have been installed. A fire extinguisher is mounted behind the drivers seat. Special rearview exterior patch mirrors were fabricated by Dick Ruzzin and the bright trim on the car has been covered in satin Black vinyl film in the fashion of the original prototype. Participation in car shows: I have shown the car and won awards in a number of local events in the Detroit area, such as: THE ITALIAN HAPPENING, late 80s, early 90s.
