Mangusta intl registry: A history of DeTomaso Mangusta MA-670 by Dick Ruzzin. The car was built at the factory in early winter of 1969 and delivered in May to the USA. Current Owner: Dick Ruzzin, Retired General Motors Design Staff. Years Purchased: September, 1969 from general Motors design Staff. Model Year: 1969 Mileage: 49,457 on 1-1-2006. Color: Original Orange with a Red interior. Now a Red exterior and Red interior, new paint in 2004, the interior was detailed. Location: Grosse Pointe Park, MI 48230. Special Notes: The car was built for Bill Mitchell, VP of Design of GM. A Chevrolet 327 CI V8 was sent to DeTomaso from Chevrolet TYPEering and installed in the car at the factory. The car was sold to Dick Ruzzin with 1,241 miles on the odometer. The TYPE was redone in 2004. Compression was lowered to 11 to 1 and a 350 CI crank and special high torque cam were installed. The TYPE now produces 346 horsepower and 370 foot pounds of torque from 2100 to 4200 RPM on the dynamometer. A special set of large diameter headers were built that go up over the rear shock structure, behind the rear suspension and down to the mufflers. The mufflers are Pantera S type. The TYPE compartment is original, mostly Black with the original air cleaner in Silver with Silver metallic tubes going to the rear quarter air intake openings. An electronic ignition and high-torque starter were installed in 2005. The original Chevrolet rocker covers are chrome. The front has a 2.75 inch Black spoiler that enhances stability at higher speeds and helps cooling at low speeds. A new aluminum cross-flow radiator and a new more powerful set of fans were installed in 2005. A high performance Chevrolet water pump was installed when the TYPE was rebuilt. A coolant recovery system was added in 1970 and an 18 lb. pressure cap was installed with the new radiator. Fans are controlled by the original manual switch. The car has Koni coil-over shocks in the front and rear. The rear shocks are extended at the top by 1.5 inches. This allows the rear springs to be adjusted to the longest and softest position. Tires are Goodyear Eagle One NASCAR 235x60 tires in the front and 275x60 tires in the rear. Front tires are run at 32 pounds of air and the rears at 35 pounds. A radio aerial has been installed at the top of the windshield on the inside of the car. A signal enhancer has also been added to the radio along with an electronic noise reduction device. The front of the seats have been raised by 1.25 inches and competition harnesses have been installed. A fire extinguisher is mounted behind the drivers seat. Special rearview exterior patch mirrors were fabricated by Dick Ruzzin and the bright trim on the car has been covered in satin Black vinyl film in the fashion of the original prototype.
