Alejandro de Tomaso then commissioned Bacchelli and Villa’s Carrozzeria Autosport in Bastiglia, Italy, to convert the car’s bodywork to Spyder form while commissioning Lupi of Modena, Italy, to implement the new Spyder’s interior design. After its 1999 completion the car debuted at the company’s 40th anniversary year celebration in Modena and was displayed in public for the first time at the 2000 Turin Motor Show. It was then used in publicity efforts that included being driven by journalists before being delivered to the current owner and registered in Germany in 2002. Finished in metallic gray over fiberglass and composite body panels, the car is powered by a mid-mounted 4.0-liter BMW quad-cam V8 that is mated to a Getrag six-speed manual transaxle. Additional features include an aluminum and composite honeycomb backbone chassis with an integrated 80-liter, a limited-slip differential, Formula 1-inspired adjustable coilover independent suspension with pushrod actuation, four-wheel Brembo disc brakes, 18” Marchesini magnesium alloy center-lock wheels, a Tubi Style exhaust system that accommodates a rear storage compartment, a terracotta convertible top, and terracotta and brown interior upholstery. This Guarà Spyder is now offered by the seller in Wiehl, Germany, on behalf of its current owner with prints of design sketches, DEKRA inspection paperwork from June 2025, and German registration that lists a first registration date of 2002. The Guarà debuted in coupe form in 1993 as the final project designed for DeTomaso by founder Alejandro de Tomaso and was inspired by the track-only Maserati Barchetta, whose designer Carlo Gaino also handled the Guarà’s styling. The 43 Guaràs built included 10 windshield-less Barchettas and three Spyders, with the latter’s genesis inspired by the input of this car’s current owner when he declined an opportunity to buy a coupe from DeTomaso sales manager Armin Fisher at the 1995 International Auto Show. According to the seller, this example began as a Guarà Coupe previously used as a demonstrator with approximately 4k kilometers before Bacchelli and Villa’s Carrozzeria Autosport was commissioned by DeTomaso to modify the bodywork according to the designs of pro industria Manfred Lang. It was reportedly sold new in Europe before being imported to the US and was subsequently purchased by the current owner out of New Jersey in 2020. Finished in silver, the car features composite bodywork over an aluminum backbone chassis that incorporates a double-wishbone suspension with pushrod-actuated Koni adjustable coilovers. It rides on 18″ Marchesini magnesium alloy wheels coupled with Brembo disc brakes at all four corners and is powered by a 4.0-liter BMW V8 linked with a Getrag six-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in blue leather and outfitted with a MOMO steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, and BF Torino bucket seats. Maintenance performed in preparation for the sale included replacing the battery and servicing the fuel system. This Guarà coupe is now offered on dealer consignment in Mount Kisco, New York, with a Montana title in the name of the owner’s LLC. The Guarà was the final car released by DeTomaso with input from company founder Alejandro de Tomaso. The design was based on the 1991 Maserati Barchetta Stradale prototype, which was designed by Carlo Gaino at Synthesis Design. The Guarà was introduced at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show and was offered in coupé, spyder, and barchetta variants, all featuring composite bodywork over an aluminum honeycomb backbone chassis. The model remained in production until 2004, when DeTomaso went into liquidation. his coupé example is finished in silver and features pop-up headlights, fog lights, side marker lamps, and louvered taillights along with a stepped decklid, a locking fuel door, and dual door-mounted mirrors. Scratches on the door handles and other imperfections in the finish can be seen in the gallery. The 18″ Marchesini magnesium alloy wheels wear DeTomaso center caps and are mounted with 245/40 front and 285/35 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires. Stopping is handled by four-wheel Brembo disc brakes with cross-drilled front rotors, while steering is via rack-and-pinion. The manually adjustable BF Torino bucket seats feature harness pass-throughs and are trimmed in blue leather, which extends to the dashboard, center console, rear bulkhead, and door panels. A DeTomaso-branded brushed aluminum shift knob is paired with a wood handbrake lever situated to the left of the driver’s seat. The car utilizes BMW-sourced switchgear and is further equipped with air conditioning, a rear defroster, and power windows. The MOMO steering wheel frames a VDO instrument cluster featuring a 300-km/h speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer shows 2,600 kilometers (~1,600 miles), approximately 100 of which were added under current ownership. The 4.0L M60B40 V8 was shared with the contemporary BMW 840Ci and features dual overhead camshafts on each cylinder bank, four valves per cylinder, and electronic fuel injection. It was purchased new without an engine by Steve Wilkinson, the owner of Pantera Parts USA, and was subsequently fitted with a 4.6-liter Ford V8 before it was purchased by the selling dealer in 2023. The composite bodywork is finished in red over matching leather upholstery, and other features include a six-speed manual transaxle, a limited-slip differential, an aluminum backbone chassis, double-wishbone suspension, Brembo disc brakes, 18″ Marchesini wheels, a roll bar, a Targa Florio-style rear-view mirror, a MoTeC data-logger, and a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel. Service performed in preparation for the sale included the installation of a custom plexiglass windscreen and replacement tires. This Guarà Barchetta is now offered in Bedford Hills, New York, with factory books, factory documentation and build records, a clean Carfax report, and New Hampshire registration. This example is finished in red with white lower body stripes, pop-up headlights, side marker lamps, dual door-mounted mirrors, a locking fuel door, and louvered taillights. A custom plexiglass windscreen was installed by the selling dealer in 2023. Chips and paint loss on the underside of the front lip can be viewed in the gallery. The 18″ Marchesini wheels wear DeTomaso center caps and are mounted with 245/40 front and 275/40 rear Pirelli Cintruato P7 tires that were installed in June 2023. Chipping finish on the right-rear wheel is visible. The Guarà rides on a 102.75″ wheelbase and features double wishbones and Koni coilovers at all four corners as well as an anti-roll bar and rack-and-pinion steering. Stopping power is provided by Brembo calipers over cross-drilled front rotors and vented rear units. The brake calipers were repainted and a fluid flush was performed in June 2023. The cockpit features manually adjustable seats trimmed in red leather along with a matching center console and carpets. Equipment includes a roll bar, an electrical cut-off switch, drilled aluminum pedals, Sabelt harnesses, a Targa Florio-style raised rear-view mirror, and a gated shifter. The leather-wrapped MOMO Prototipo steering wheel features a DeTomaso horn button, and it frames a MoTeC data logger. The digital odometer shows 9,400 kilometers (~5,800 miles). It was delivered new to Sport Cars GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany, and is said to have spent time in collections before it was purchased by the selling dealer in 2022. The car is finished in metallic blue over Pelle Blu leather upholstery, and power comes from a BMW-sourced 4.0-liter V8 paired with a six-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Features include composite bodywork, an aluminum backbone chassis, a double-wishbone suspension, Brembo disc brakes, 18″ Marchesini wheels, and Schroth Racing six-point harnesses. A replacement fuel pump was reportedly fitted in 2021. This Guarà Barchetta shows 415 kilometers (~250 miles) and is now offered by the selling dealer in Belgium with original sales paperwork, a DeTomaso Certificato di Origine, factory literature, and German registration.
