- Modifications
- This 1971 DeTomaso Pantera was acquired by the current owner in 1993 and subsequently modified for track use with a twin-turbocharged and intercooled 351ci Cleveland V8 fed by an Autronic electronic fuel injection system. The engine is backed by a ZF five-speed manual transaxle with an aluminum flywheel and a twin-disc clutch assembly, and the chassis has been upgraded with Aldan adjustable coilovers, a larger rear sway bar, JFZ brake components, and 17” alloy wheels. A roll bar has been added to the cabin along with Cobra bucket seats, a Britannia steering wheel, aftermarket gauges, a Halon fire-suppression system, and a Clarion digital media receiver. This custom Pantera is now offered by the seller in Pennsylvania on behalf of the owner with records and transferable New York registration. The fiberglass front deck lid with cooling vents was installed following damage to the left-front corner as the result of an accident. The seller tells us the chassis was not affected, and work took 15 months and involved stripping the body and repainting it at that time. The twin-turbocharged 351ci Cleveland V8 was built at JBE Racing of New York using a replacement engine block, rotating assembly, and cylinder heads. Engine management is provided by an Autronic electronic fuel injection system, and charge air is delivered through an aluminum intercooler and a BBK/Edelbrock throttle body. The dual exhaust system is constructed from stainless steel. The seller states the car has not been driven much on the current engine build. The 17” alloy wheels have DeTomaso-logo center caps and are wrapped in older 225/45 front and 285/40 rear Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Aldan adjustable coilovers have been installed along with an uprated rear sway bar, while the four-wheel disc brakes have been upgraded with JFZ components. A roll bar has been added to the cabin along with Cobra bucket seats, which are fitted with RJS harnesses. A Clarion digital media receiver has been installed in addition to a Halon fire-suppression system, the bottle for which was replaced in 2020. The Britannia steering wheel sits ahead of a Shelby SpearCo boost gauge flanked by a Veglia 200-mph speedometer and an AutoMeter Sport-Comp tachometer, while an array of supplementary gauges is mounted in the center stack and console. The speedometer and odometer do not work, and the five-digit odometer shows 89k miles. Total mileage is unknown.
