- This 1989 DeTomaso Pantera is one of approximately 183 GT5-S models built in the late 1980s with factory steel wheel-arch flares and a molded steel front spoiler. The car was reportedly sold new at Sports Cars GmbH in Stuttgart, Germany, and relocated to Italy with its second owner in 2007. It was later registered in England in 2016 before being imported to the US in 2017. A refurbishment at Autocostruzioni S.D. in Turin, Italy, competed in 2011 included refinishing the car in Rosso Corsa over a Pelle Nero leather interior, and power is provided by a replacement Ford 351ci Cleveland V8 paired with a ZF five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes black split bumpers, 15″ Campagnolo wheels, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, adjustable coilover suspension, air conditioning, power windows, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette stereo. This Pantera GT5-S is now offered on dealer consignment in California with a letter of authenticity from RS Corse Srl, an owner’s manual, a tool kit, period sales brochures, invoices for the refurbishment, a Carfax report, and a clean Michigan title. The Ghia-designed bodywork was revised for the GT5 iteration of the Pantera starting in 1980 with wider fiberglass fender flares and a fiberglass front spoiler. This example is one of a reported 183 GT5-S models built between 1985 and 1989 with integrated steel fender flares and a molded steel front spoiler. Painted yellow in the 1990s, the car was refinished in its factory Rosso Corsa as part of the refurbishment completed in 2011 by Autocostruzioni S.D. in Turin, Italy. Additional features include black split bumpers front and rear, black moldings and trim, and quad exhaust tips exiting below the rear fascia. The three-spoke Momo steering wheel fronts Veglia Borletti instruments consisting of a 300-km/h speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature and oil pressure. Ancillary gauges in the center stack display amperage, fuel level, and water temperature and are mounted above an analog clock. The five-digit odometer was reportedly reset during the 2011 refurbishment and now shows approximately 700 kilometers (~440 miles). According to the selling dealer, the odometer showed approximately 26k kilometers (~16k miles) prior to being reset. True mileage is unknown. Beginning in 1988, DeTomaso was no longer able to source new 351ci Cleveland engines, and this example is one of the cars originally equipped with a Ford 351ci Windsor engine. This car was fitted with a 351ci Cleveland crate engine by a previous owner and features an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, a Holley 650-cfm four-barrel carburetor, a Mallory distributor, an eight-quart Aviaid oil pan, and polished Moroso valve covers. Additional equipment includes dual electric radiator cooling fans, GTS-style tubular exhaust headers, and a GTS ANSA exhaust system.
