History
- Modifications
- This 1971 DeTomaso Pantera was sold new by McClure Lincoln-Mercury of Anaheim, California in May 1972 as a Mother’s Day gift for the seller’s mother-in-law, who is the daughter of famed Southern California midget racer and team owner Johnny Balch. The car would serve as her daily driver throughout the 1970s until being retired to occasional weekend use. Following a move to Michigan in the 1980s, the car was stored in a climate-controlled garage and used occasionally only in the summer months. It is equipped with the original 351ci V8 and paired to a ZF 5-speed manual transaxle. In the 1980s, a refurbishment was performed that included an engine rebuild and repaint, and subsequent work to the car would include new seat upholstery and aftermarket wheels. The most recent service was carried out by the seller following the car’s move to Washington state and included cooling updates with an aftermarket radiator, stainless steel lines, and additional cooling vents, along with new rear deck struts and an oil change. The car is now offered on behalf of the original owner by her son-in-law in Washington state with the original tool kit, several spare parts, period literature and memorabilia, the original Campagnolo wheels, a Deluxe Marti report, and a clean Michigan title in the current owner’s name.
