History notes
This 1974 DeTomaso Pantera is believed to have been acquired new by a worker on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System out of Anchorage, Alaska, before being repossessed and acquired by the second owner in 1979. It is said to have been driven until around 1985 when the owner moved to Idaho, where the car remained in their collection until its acquisition by the selling dealer in 2025. Subsequent reconditioning work involved installing a Carter carburetor as well as replacing various fuel pump and ignition components. Described as a running project requiring paint and body work, the car is finished in red over black vinyl and powered by a 351ci Ford Cleveland V8 paired with a five-speed ZF manual transaxle. It rides on 15″ Campagnolo cast magnesium wheels coupled with disc brakes at all four corners and is further equipped with pop-up headlights and a gated shifter along with Veglia Borletti instrumentation and an Edelbrock intake manifold. This Pantera project is now offered by the selling dealer in Idaho Falls, Idaho, with a collection of vehicle literature, spare parts, and a clean Alaska title. The Pantera’s bodywork was designed under the direction of American designer Tom Tjaarda. This example is finished in red and wears a black hood and impact bumpers. The selling dealer notes a hole in the hood and rust on the driver-side rocker panel as well as dents in the driver-side fender and the roof. Scratches and other paint imperfections are visible around the body. The bucket seats are trimmed in black vinyl, which extends to the dash, center console, and door panels. A Craig AM/FM cassette player was added under previous ownership, and further appointments include a heater, power windows, and shoulder belts. The car retains air conditioning equipment, though the system does not work. The three-spoke steering wheel is missing its DeTomaso-branded pad and is paired with a dogleg-pattern gated shifter. The wheel frames a Veglia Borletti 200-mph speedometer and 8k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for amperage, fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure are stationed in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, around 100 of which were added under current ownership. The mid-mounted 351ci Ford Cleveland V8 featured a four-barrel Autolite carburetor from the factory for a rating of 264 horsepower and 314 lb-ft of torque. An Edelbrock intake manifold was added under previous ownership, and a Carter carburetor was added in 2025. Additional work by the selling dealer is noted to have involved repairing the coolant tank as well as replacing along with the fuel pump, fuel filter, battery, distributor cap, distributor rotor, voltage regulator, spark plugs, and ignition wires.
