History notes
This 1973 DeTomaso Pantera Lusso is claimed by a previous owner to have been utilized by Ford for testing purposes and later sold to a company executive. Early on an Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley carburetor were installed, and the car is believed to have then spent time subsequently with two collectors and was featured in the May 2014 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car before it was purchased by the seller in 2020 indicating 12k miles. Along the way paintwork was performed, the brakes were overhauled, the cooling system was upgraded, and replacement cast-magnesium Camagnolo wheels were retrofitted, and it retains a 351ci Ford Cleveland V8 paired with a five-speed ZF manual transaxle as well as four-wheel disc brakes, pop-up headlights, quad exhaust outlets, a gated shifter, air conditioning components, and power windows. This Pantera L is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Florida title in the name of the seller’s trust. The Pantera’s bodywork was designed under the direction of American designer Tom Tjaarda. The Lusso models had restyled bumpers , and this example is finished in Orange and features pop-up headlights and quad exhaust outlets. A prior sale of the car noted the front end had paintwork performed and previously applied Zeibart coating was removed, with the factory underside finish replicated. Imperfections are noted in the gallery. The cast-magnesium 15″ Campagnolo wheels are replacements that were fitted by a previous owner. That owner also overhauled the braking system with rebuilt calipers and a re-sleeved master cylinder. An unmounted set of Goodyear Arriva tires, believed to have been associated with early ownership of the car, are included along with a photo of them on the car. The car has black upholstery, a gated shifter, shoulder belts, and power windows. The air conditioning system has been retained, though it does not work properly and requires service. The three-spoke steering wheel frames a Veglia 200-mph speedometer and 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for amperage, fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure are stationed in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 12k miles, fewer than 50 of which were added under current ownership. The mid-mounted 351ci Ford Cleveland V8 was fitted with an Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley carburetor by an early owner according to what was told to the seller. A previous owner also overhauled the cooling system with an aluminum water pump, replacement hoses, and a Ron Davis aluminum radiator. The headers were Jet Hot coated dark gray in 2012. The car was featured in the May 2014 issue of Hemmings Sports & Exotic Car, a copy of which is included in the sale along with workshop manuals, factory literature, service records, and tools.
