- History notes
- This 1973 DeTomaso Pantera is said to have remained with its second owner from the mid-1980s through its acquisition by the selling dealer in 2021, during which time refurbishment work and modification was reportedly carried out in the 1990s by Hall Pantera of Paramount, California. Finished in black over a black interior, the car features GT5-style bodywork that includes flared fenders, rocker panel extensions, and a rear wing. Power is provided by a 351ci Cleveland V8 that was disassembled prior to being resealed in 2023 and is fitted with quadruple Weber carburetors atop an Inglese manifold. Shifting is via a five-speed manual transmission, and further equipment includes 15″ wheels, Recaro bucket seats, power windows, and a Sony cassette stereo. Service performed since 2022 has involved overhauling the brake calipers as well as replacing the rotors and pads. This modified Pantera is offered by the selling dealer in Pennsylvania with a clean Massachusetts title. The Pantera was designed by Carrozzeria Ghia and resulted from a collaboration between DeTomaso and the Ford Motor Company. The mid-engine, Ford-powered cars were assembled in Modena, Italy, and imported for sale at U.S. Lincoln-Mercury dealerships. This example is said to have been modified in the 1990s by Hall Pantera with GT5-style bodywork that includes a revised front air dam, flared fenders, rocker panel extensions, side air intakes, and a rear wing. The seller notes that the car was refinished in its factory black color approximately two years ago. The 15″ wheels wear 285/40 front and 345/35 rear Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires that were reportedly mounted in 2022. The suspension is said to have been overhauled by Hall Pantera and fitted with aluminum components. According to the selling dealer, the steering rack and outer tie rod ends have been replaced since 2021. The calipers were also rebuilt, the rotors and pads were replaced, and the parking brake was overhauled. The cabin has been outfitted with Recaro bucket seats trimmed in black cloth with multi-color striped inserts. Latch-and-link belts are equipped for both occupants, and the center stack houses controls for the power windows, a gated shifter, and a Sony cassette stereo. The air conditioning system has been removed. A leather-wrapped steering wheel features a DeTomaso center cap and frames Veglia Borletti instrumentation including a 200-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer. Gauges monitoring amperage, fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure are mounted vertically in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 27k miles, approximately 600 of which were added under current ownership. The 351ci Cleveland V8 was removed, disassembled, and resealed in 2023, at which time the rocker arm pivots were replaced, the valve covers were polished, and the fluids were refreshed. A Jim Inglese intake manifold is said to be installed, and various engine components have been painted black. Further equipment includes quadruple Weber carburetors fitted with individual velocity stacks, wrapped exhaust headers, and a NASCAR-style radiator.
