History notes
This 1972 DeTomaso Pantera was delivered new to the Aeronutronic division of Ford Aerospace for use as a pool vehicle before being registered to a private owner in Ventura, California, in July 1974. Chassis THPNMD04013 subsequently spent 18 years on display at the Yankee Candle Car Museum in South Deerfield, Massachusetts, prior to being offered on BaT in October 2018 and was subsequently repainted in its factory yellow finish that same year. The car was acquired by the current owner—President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ford Motor Company Jim Farley—on BaT in June 2024. Its overbored 351ci Cleveland V8 and ZF five-speed manual transaxle were removed and serviced by Classic Auto of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in January 2026, and further changes under current ownership have involved fitting an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, refinishing the 15″ Campagnolo magnesium wheels in bronze, reupholstering the seats in black vinyl and houndstooth cloth, adding a Ferrero steering wheel, installing a custom sound system, and more as detailed below. This “Pre-L” Pantera is now offered by the seller on behalf of Mr. Farley out of Wisconsin with a Deluxe Marti report, vehicle literature, ownership documents since 1974, service records beginning in 1985, a tool kit, spare and removed parts, and a clean Michigan title in Mr. Farley’s name.
Modifications
This 1972 DeTomaso Pantera was originally sold in California and was owned by the Yankee Candle Car Museum in Massachusetts for over a decade before the seller purchased it three years ago. The Ford 351 Cleveland V8 underwent a rebuild in 2009 to restore compression to pre-1972 emission standard specifications and enhance performance, and the ZF 5-speed manual transaxle was also overhauled at that time. Other modifications include an MSD ignition system, a Holley 4-barrel 750cfm Double Pumper carburetor with electric choke, and an upgraded cooling system. Finished in yellow over black vinyl, this Pantera now shows around 31k miles and is offered with service records from the past decade, the original owner’s and service manuals, Pantera-related literature, a deluxe Marti report, and a transferable Connecticut registration. This 1972 DeTomaso Pantera was delivered new to Ford Aerospace’s Aeronutronic division for use as a pool vehicle before being registered to a private owner in Ventura, California in July 1974. It subsequently spent 18 years on display at the Yankee Candle Car Museum before being acquired by the seller in 2015. Previously offered on BaT in 2018, the car was refinished in the factory Giallo Fly Yellow that same year and now shows 34k miles. The 351ci Cleveland V8 was built to 495 horsepower in 2023 and it drives the rear wheels through a German ZF five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes Edelbrock cylinder heads, a Holley 750cfm carburetor, hydraulic roller lifters, an MSD ignition, and Hall Big Bore headers. This Pantera coupe is now offered with the owner’s manual, factory toolkit, inflatable spare with inflator, workshop technical manual, ownership documents since 1974, service records beginning in 1985, original dealer literature, period memorabilia, a Deluxe Marti report, and Connecticut registration.
