Modifications: This 1972 DeTomaso Pantera is a “pre-L” example that has been modified with a 5.4L DOHC Ford V8 along with upgraded suspension and interior. Started over 10 years ago, the project’s goal was to install a modern ECU-controlled Ford V8 and adjustable suspension in an early Pantera with the aim of making it a reliable driver with a significant power bump over the the original 351 Cleveland. An Air Research T-04 twin turbo setup is also included and was initially going to be the installed, but the builder opted against it in favor of better drivability. The original engine is disassembled but will be included in the sale. Invoices total just over $73k so far – some shakedown and finishing touches are needed but the car is said to drive well. After a decade of storage, the paint has been cleaned up and now shines well over straight body panels including carbon fiber deck and trunk lids – the stock steel panels also come in the sale and are painted to match.
