- This 1972 De Tomaso Pantera is a desirable pre-L model with slim chrome bumpers. It features original Campagnolo wheels and nicely sized Goodyears, and the drivetrain is believed to be the original matching 351 Cleveland V8 and ZF transaxle. Though currently fitted with carbon fiber engine and luggage compartment lids, original bodywork is included in the sale (see pics), and the seller adds that recent suspension freshening and an already sorted drivetrain have the car in excellent mechanical order. These came standard with power disc brakes and rack and pinion steering, and could achieve 0-60 times of 5.5 seconds – pretty impressive 42 years ago and even now. Thought to have left the factory painted yellow, remnants of that color show on door sills and underneath the carpets. Small, metal bumpers look far better than the black rubber items fitted to later examples, and we’re happy to see this one retain its original wheels rather than the plus-sized chrome replicas many cars now seem to wear. Original metal lids should be an easy swap if the new owner wishes to return to a stock look. We would. The rear sway bar has been chromed and Ansa mufflers/exhaust exits are new. The driver’s door shows evidence of prior bodywork, though the seller notes that repair appears to have been minor.
