DeTomaso took a modified version of the P70 spine chassis and dropped in a Ford 302 CI engine with a ZF 5-speed transaxle. For the body, luck ran DeTomaso’s way—Carrozzeria Ghia’s Giorgetto Giugiaro had penned a dramatic midengined design for Iso’s Renzo Rivolta, with Iso rejecting it for his next car. De Tomaso swept in for the spoils and named it the Mangusta, the predator to the Cobra. After debuting at the Turin Motor Show in November 1966, DeTomaso sent a Mangusta to Dearborn for Ford to assess as an addition to the Ford product line. With Shelby playing the part of the potential distributor, the car was badged as the Shelby MkV, the successor to the GT40 MkIV. Ford decided not to import the car, which was ultimately done by Kjell Qvale of British Motor Car Distributors in San Francisco. This 1969 DeTomaso Mangusta is finished in bright red with white racing stripes, a rear spoiler, side scoops and “Shelby MK V” badging. Beneath the rear gullwing hatches resides a Boss 302 Ford engine, professed to be built by Shelby American, and is fitted with finned “DeTomaso” valve covers and a current jackshaft to operate the alternator and standard air conditioning compressor. Mated to a ZF 5DS 25/1 5-speed manual transaxle, power meets the ground via Campagnolo 7x15 front and 8x15 rear magnesium wheels shod in Dunlop G/T Qualifier rubber. | For sale 9/27/22 for $369,900. The incredible DeTomaso Mangusta featured here is finished in stunning dark red over a gorgeous black leather interior. Originally delivered new in Europe to its first owner and then brought to the United States where, reportedly, Carroll Shelby was commissioned to rebuild and blueprint the engine to his specifications; eventually ending up in a prominent collection for many years. This exquisite example has been meticulously maintained and recently serviced including new Michelin XWX tires and is now ready to be shown or driven. Accompanying this investment-grade DeTomaso Mangusta are its original owner's manual, sales brochure, toolkit and more. We are proud to bring to market what we believe to be one of the very best examples on the market today! Offered to the most sophisticated collector, investor or enthusiast who understands and appreciates the investment potential of this iconic model. | 20,393km | — | Marc Hefle, CA | — |

This car was previously in Switzerland, and was built in October 1968. Mike owned this car from 2001-2007 in Northern California. The color of the exterior is an appealing Apple Green color (Original Factory Color) and the interior is a pleasing Creme. This Mangusta has a lowered floorpan, which is an excellent feature, especially for taller drivers. Additional upgrades include suspension work and 275/60-15 Radial tires in the rear. Around $25,000 was spent in cooling, shifting, ZF safety wiring, hoses, and other miscellaneous upgrades. |

Reserve price set just under $90,000.00, with bids within one dollar of reserve. We feel that this is car would be a steal at this price, as over $100,000 was invested in the professional restoration alone. Ground up Restoration by Panteras By Wilkinson in August 2006. January 18, 2007: Update: This incredible car is back for sale on Ebay..."Buy It Now" price is $94,995.00 and well worth it ! |

Offered here is a fine example of the legendary, powerful and extremely stylish De Tomaso Mangusta. Consigned from a long-term California owner - with a taste for the finest European sports cars on the planet - This striking example is belied to have been delivered new into the Golden State, or at least resided here for several decades. This Giorgetto Giugiaro-designed and Ghia built supercar is known to have been owned by a Mr. Robert Piccinini of Modesto, California by the early 2000s. Although the Mangusta has received refurbishment work over the years, portions of it still remain in largely original condition. For example the interior, which appears to never have been redone, or many of the finishes in the engine and front compartment. The seats do show some wear, but could be kept as they are to save the patina. The Fly Yellow exterior has been painted in recent years, and shows beautifully. Chrome, bright work, glass, lights and lenses appear to be largely original as well. | 47209 km | — | — | — |

The owners have had the car for a number of years after flying to Michigan to purchase the car and then driving it all of the way back to Washington State ! After a restoration with new floors and sills, the car took third place in its first show ever, The Concorso Italiano in Monterey California. It was driven down the coast highway, and then right onto the show runway ! The car has since won first place at a Washington Pantera meet, and is enjoyed to this day. |

It's a LHD very early European 305 bhp, 289 spec car (the 10th built?), & was imported into South Africa from Switzerland by 5 times World Motorcycle Champion Jim Redman in the early 70's & later owned by well known South African racing driver Gordon Henderson. It is the only one of its type ever to have arrived in South Africa. We have owned it since about 1980. Unusually, it has similar seats to the prototype with prominent curved side bolsters. Every panel on this car is steel, no sign of the alloy mentioned in almost every article, yet all are original! It was originally painted a tomato red, but is now finished in BMW Sydney blue metallic. I have imported the correct size Dunlop M section historic racing tyres from the UK, just like the prototype, to fill the wheel-arches properly & imported a windscreen for the car from Hall Pantera. July 11, 2009 Update: This stunning Mangusta is now complete and ready for road testing ! |

The car offered here was, according to the owner, originally delivered in Italy in March 1969. According to Mangusta International, it was the seventh Mangusta built and one of the initial prototype cars, as distinguished by the louvered opening between the rear exhaust outlets. It later travelled to the United States, where it was restored by California-based De Tomaso enthusiast Gary Hall in 1998 for Richard Lee, who is reportedly a relation of famous martial artist Bruce Lee. The car later returned to Italy in 2008 and was sold to a Belgian collector. This owner elected to complete a full repaint and necessary body and mechanical work in 2010 and 2011, all of which is documented by pictures accompanying the car. Since its completion, the Mangusta has participated in several concours d’elegance, with the most prominent being the Zoute Concours d’Elegance in 2012. It was also the subject of a feature article in Dutch magazine Autovisie, appearing in the recent 18 June 2015 issue. | — | — | — | This car was restored years ago, was sold in California, sold in Italy and now on its way to Belgium for a restoration. |

It is thought to be the first Mangusta ever registered, and is the 4th car built. As if this is not enough rarity, this is also one of six 1967 factory built prototype cars used to promote the Mangusta at shows. The engine has a Holman-Moody prepared 305hp Hi-po 289. The interior is a show quality, all leather interior. These pictures were just taken in July 2008. |
