It has been the subject of an exhaustive restoration and has been used very little since. This will enable the new owner to make best use of its driving qualities and the 300-plus bhp produced by the 4.7-litre V8 Ford engine that equipped the first versions. The Mangusta was De Tomaso's first series-production sports car, as the previous model, the Vallelunga, had only been produced in very limited numbers. As with its predecessor, the design was by Giorgetto Giugiaro, with a dynamic and elegantly styled low body shape and characteristic rear panels opening like the Gullwing doors. For reasons of simplicity and reliability, Alessandro De Tomaso opted to use American engines that, while not having the noble pedigree of Italian engines, required less work and were generally trouble-free.
